James Newell is a talented vocal stylist and guitarist who provides high quality, professional entertainment for events and functions throughout the greater Nashville area. James specializes in smokey jazz vocals that have a relaxing, bluesy edge. From jazz standards to classic popular music, James will adapt his repertoire to fit your needs. James' resonant, heartfelt vocals, backed by his confident, evocative guitar style will provide just the right atmosphere for your event or party. James can also provide, duo, trio, or larger musical configurations to meet your entertainment needs. With over 30 years in the entertainment business, you can trust James to provide just the right musical compliment for your event. Along with his musical partner, boogie woogie piano master Mark Sorrells, Newell & Sorrells perform some of the best blues, jazz, and New Orleans style music in Nashville. James R. Newell and Mark Sorrells are currently appearing weekly
at Chappy's on Church Street, Nashville, TN

 every Friday and Saturday, 6:30pm to 9:30pm
and every Sunday for Brunch, 11:30am to 2:30pm

Chappy’s on Church exudes New Orleans “Old World Charm” with, among other things, Parisian street lamps indoors, a 100-year old stained-glass wall, and a hand-carved bar from Europe.

John “Chappy” Chapman was born in Mobile, Alabama where his father was the British Consul. Later, after his fathers death, John and his family moved to New Orleans where he graduated from Loyola University of New Orleans with a degree in business.  

The original Chappy’s Seafood Restaurant opened its doors in December of 1984 and remained one of the premier restaurants on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina completely demolished Chappy’s restaurant and his home.

In June of 2006, Chappy’s Seafood Restaurant re-opened as:

in Nashville, TN.
